''Hypnotized' by Suicide is an awesome example of rhythm and syncopation - this band's bassist and drummer and guitarist are clearly very talented musicians who did a very thorough job of blowing this reviewer's mind with their chest-pounding rhythms. From the first note, the bass and guitar form a rock-solid foundation for the song, melded seamlessly with the drums. The riffs are massively complex, with thirty-second notes being standard, and alternating time signatures between four-four and three-four toward the end of the song showcasing just how tight and technically proficient this group of musicians is.
If you listen very closely and crank your bass up quite a bit, you can hear the precision with which Justin Marko (bass) slaps the strings, lightning-fast as a machine gun, and in perfect concert with the equally precise fretwork of Kris Miller's guitar. And if you focus only on the drums and percussion, you will be mesmerized with the masterful playing of Kennedy Smith. This is a drummer that goes way beyond keeping a beat - he infuses the song with a depth and intelligence that is a joy to hear.'~ Shadow Jade --Gods Of Music |
