'Cochise Anderson performs at the Bruce Museum with Jana and Joseph Fire Crow Jr.
(GREENWICH, CT - March 18, 2007 at 3pm) Local and national artist, Cochise Anderson, performed at the Bruce Museum as part of the Music at the Bruce 2007 Young People’s Concert Series highlighting Native American Music, which also featured Jana and Joseph Fire Crow Jr.
Through the use of his Native flutes, drum, rattles, and singing; as well as his personal stories, and educational information about music, geography, and language; Cochise shared some valuable information about Native American culture and experience, all the while keeping the audience members entertained. From beginning to end, there was laughter and applause for enjoyment, as well as oohs and ahs for understanding. There was a mix of all ages from grandparent to parent to grandchild, and all enjoyed Cochise’s highly interactive and inter-generational program. This special performance included a treat at the end for both spectators and participants alike, when members of the audience were given the opportunity to learn the rabbit dance perform it together with Cochise.
Along with family-oriented and K-12 programs, a more mature offering is also available for college students, particularly Native students, to reinforce pride in Native traditions as well as give students that much needed outlet to express themselves through positive entertainment at their universities. Cochise’s one man performance presentations (The Kemosabe Therapy and The Only Good Poet Is A Read Poet) include dramatic monologues, heightened spoken word, traditional and original Native American flute, drum, and rattle songs with various cultural dances. He also performs original blues songs accompanied by his own virtuosic harmonica! In conjunction with these presentations, Cochise also offers a variety of lecture/demonstrations as well as workshops and residencies in creative writing, (personal and family stories with poetry); and spoken word performance (theater arts and public speaking) throughout the country. Cochise has been the instructor for The Penumbra Theatre's Summer Youth Institute. Cochise also is available for music concerts at corporations to help promote cultural diversity. Area schools and venues that may enjoy this program and other workshops and seminars by Cochise, are welcome to provide contact details at his website at www.Cochise-Okcha-a.com/Bookings or email his rep at valaida@cochise-okcha-a.com .
