'What IS The Schmoejoes all about? Well they are a little bit of pop, little bit of alternative, little bit experimental, and a lot of fun. The band's influence include a wide mass of genres, from The Zombies, The Beatles, Neil Young, Badfinger, The Kinks, and Willie Nelson. Those influences are a clear example of what to expect from The Schmoejoes - that being, the unexpected!
'~ Applauze Magazine - September 2006 'Finally! After almost two years in existence, I made it to a Schmoejoes show. Any reader could easily make the mistake of thinking that I haven't been following their development; online, in print, and on the radio.
Their bio lists influence of: The Zombies, The Beatles, Neil Young, Badfinger, The Kinks, and Willie Nelson. I wouldn't argue any on this list, but two obvious styles are not adequately addressed by the notable artists above. Most obvious is the na-na-na-able guitar melodies of The Ventures, and the quirky blues-flavored soul of someone like, maybe, Al Green.
Like that feeling you get when you're watching some skinny acrobat wobble around on the top of a stack of chairs twenty feet tall, I kept waiting for the rhythm section to just collapse, completely unaware of where the song was going next. They didn't. Without a net, they easily navigated the variegated structures of a song-writer that can't stand still, and can't stand to have a boilerplate beat. They're poppy, they're tight, they're loud, and they aren't easily intimidated by drunk folk.'~ Tincanvalley - March 2007 |
