The Knotwells - Reviews
'In the 24 hours before First Avenue declared bankruptcy, employees were told to cash their checks, gather their things, and wait.... Two nights later, on Tuesday, November 2, the local gypsy punk band the Knotwells were performing outside First Avenue on the sidewalk for a crowd of about 20 people. Their gig at the 7th St. Entry had been canceled earlier in the day, when it was announced that the club would be closed indefinitely starting at 1:30 p.m.'

'The power came on and, what a surprise, the Knotwells band started to play. They were amazing. They were talented musicians, but, more than that, they were having way too much fun to be a movement band. None of the grim 'Eve of Destruction', 'we're all gonna die and be unhappy besides' stuff. This band wanted to kick out the jams, put the blame where it belongs and get on with having a good time. Their first number made them seem like an electric rock and roll jug band. It included an electric washtub bass. The next number was a cross between Indie Rock and Kentucky Bluegrass. I asked the drummer/mandolin player what kind of music he would call it. He said it was Punktry, Country Punk. Jason, drums, mandolin, vocals and guitar; Arik, lead singer and lyricist; Joel, bass guitar and washtub bass; Crystal, violin, harmonica and banjo; and Brian, lead guitar and accordian. '
