'I really enjoyed this play. It was believable and riveting. I found myself in tears, especially right at the end, and that was now three hours ago. Once, as the characters struggled, I got a strangely profound feeling , that the world would be so wonderful, if there were more people like these, listening to their own hearts, rather than rules. However, I am still trying to figure out what happened... I loved the twist, but it left me puzzled, and somehow that too, makes me like the play even more. For one thing, I'm still THERE. Til I figure it out, I get to live with those wonderful characters! I fell in love with them.

The actors and director are trained and talented - I have seen them in action before and they bring great energy to their projects - but the thing I most appreciate about Drowning in Velvet is the writing. It is funny and chilling by turns, and the interactions are truthful and human. This play deals with death in a way that is both touching and horrible - the underlying message seems to be that we never fully know the ones we love, and that message resonates even as it sends a shiver up the spine.

Bethany Hummel, Brenna Jones, and Ruth Virkus should be commended for writing a very stirring play about the discovery of buried secrets following the death of a grandmother they thought they knew. If you're looking for a more traditional drama performance at the Fringe, I would definitely recommend "Drowning in Velvet".
