The Afterglow

THE AFTERGLOW. Originally formed as an acoustic trio in the spring of 2000, Michael Handler (acoustic guitar and vocals), Chris Klimek (lead acoustic guitar and vocals) and Pete Pederson (lead vocals) realized they had something special.

The group began establishing a mix of songs that revolved around warm three-part harmonies. In spring of 2001, they added Brad Draper on drums and Erik Naslundon bass. The new kids on the block added an aggressive enthusiasm to the music. With their jazz/fusion background the band's original pop/rock sounds began a brilliant period of evolution.

The result? Harmonies and riffs that would impressDarwin.

The band started its Twin Cities club appearances in fall of 2001. After recording their first EP, ten twentyone, the band noticed that its local music scouts (a.k.a. bar flies) loved the new sound and suggested that Dada, Tonic, Goo Goo Dolls and the Foo Fighters sounded a lot like The Afterglow. In winter of 2002, Klimek tragically backed over his acoustic guitar with his S.U.V., but quickly rebounded with his new electric love. Klimek's newfound driving style took the bands hooks and solos to a new
level.

The Afterglow added to their performance schedule, fan base and repertoire with their second EP. During winter of 2002, the band faced a difficult decision to part ways with Pederson, their lead singer. Handler and Klimek split the responsibility of covering lead vocals on the EP, and after reflecting on the situation, it was easy to appropriately title the CD Bitterwarm.

In the middle of a busy spring schedule, the band signed with TinderboX Music, a promotional company based in Minneapolis . TinderboX sent their CDs to numerous college radio stations throughout the states and beyond. A few weeks later, The Afterglow was being played on more than 120 college radio stations across the country.

The Afterglow has emerged into a sticky blend of four musicians with backgrounds ranging from rock to jazz and funk to pop. Firmly planted acoustic guitar arrangements, sparkling electric riffs, a booming rhythm section and original harmonies surround introspective, insightful lyrics throughout their music. Look forward to hearing more from The Afterglow as they continue to perform throughout the Twin Cities and begin touring neighboring states.
