Andrea Kovago, lyric mezzo-soprano comes to us from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. An emerging talent in the Twin Cities, she has performed steadily in the areas of opera, oratorios and recitals. Her most recent performance was that of a small but provocative role as Emilie in Conrad Susa's The Dangerous Liaisons this past March with the University of Minnesota Opera Theatre under the direction of Dr.Vern Sutton. Other roles include that of the Componist from Ariadne auf Naxos, Meg Page from The Merry Wives of Windsor, Gertrude in Hansel and Gretel and numerous supporting roles in other various operatic works such as Mozart's Marriage of Figaro with Debut Opera Canada, and Countess Maritza with North Star Opera in June of 2002. This autumn, Ms. Kovago will perform both roles of Nancy and Mrs. Herring in the University of Minnesota's fall opera production of Albert Herring directed by Mr. David Walsh. Future roles include that of La Voix in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann in April, 2004 at the University of Minnesota.
Equally at home in opera and concerts, Ms. Kovago has been a featured soloist in major choral works that include Bach's B minor Mass, Magnificat and Mozart's Requiem within the Twin Cities and Faure's Requiem and Handel's Messiah in past performances while residing in Canada. More recently, Ms. Kovago made her recording debut in March of 2003 with a rather distinguished version of Mozart's Requiem that features her as one of the guest soloists with the Exultate Festival Choir and Orchestra, under the baton of Mr. Thomas Rossin and may be found by visiting www.exultate.org.
In addition to an avid performing schedule, Ms. Kovago is currently pursuing a D.M.A. in Vocal Performance at the University of Minnesota, under the direction of her instructor Mr. Lawrence Weller.
Ms. Kovago has taught private voice lessons for the past ten years and continues to do so as a vocal instructor for both group voice classes and private lessons at the University of Minnesota.
