Despite differing musical backgrounds, common creative interests compelled guitarist Eric Grashorn and saxophonist/bassist Seth Cooper to pursue collaborative songwriting. Over months of jam sessions and numerous glasses of wine, they explored electronic music, bluegrass, and jazz but found little more than empty bottles. So they returned to rock, which infused their stale ideas with life. Then drummer Justin Kimball completed the picture: his hot-blooded rhythms brought the songs for which they longed within reach. Kimball combines with the multi-instrument stylings of Cooper and Grashorn to create a sound alluding at times to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Death Cab for Cutie, and Radiohead. Eager to tread the rock-pop path in a new pair of shoes, Brave Embrace is like that first breath of autumn; fresh yet familiar.
