S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S.

A hip-hop trio based in Minneapolis, this young group bring a style all their own to the hip-hop game. S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. consists of two MCs (Golden and Jayechs) and one DJ (Squeeze) If you ever see their live show, it is not complete without the break dancing crew Eternal Illusions. Influenced by all music ranging from jazz and Latin, to blues, and classical, S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S create an often eclectic and original sound.

Formed in 1991 when childhood friends Golden and Jayechs decided to form a hip-hop/R&B duo in the vain of Bell Biv Devoe, S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S worked out songs with simple harmonies and clever hip-hop breakdowns. Soon, they were making tapes for friends, but the effort was unfulfilling. Their true passion was hip-hop. Jayechs and Golden spent most of their waking hours freestyling, battling, and writing countless songs. This was the birth of S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S.

In September 1993, S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. independently released their debut Suspects 94 EP which was very well-received in the local underground hip-hop community. Recorded in New York at the apartment of Golden's aunt, Suspects 94 was duplicated on Maxell 60 minute tapes and given to family friends and anyone who would listen. The work and result of this product barely whetted the appetite of the group.

1996 and the follow-up EP Reflections marked the beginning of Jayechs' career as a producer. Tired of dealing with local promoters, producers, and stragglers who only left behind broken promises and missed opportunities, Jayechs borrowed his fathers Ensoniq SQ2 Keyboard and began to hammer out chords and melodies. This laid the foundation for the future of S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. sound. Their never-ending growth as songwriters also helped develop the music and group into a more thoughtful, coherent unit.

Almost seven years after the release of Suspects 94, S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. put out their first full length LP, Time Will Tell. The album was recorded in a studio near Lancaster, PA during vacations that Golden had from his college in Saint Paul, MN. In 1999 Jayechs joined his partner in Minnesota while Golden finished school. In order to properly distribute and market themselves, S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. joined with artists Jacques KuSto and NX2KN to start Souls of Life Records. The expense of this new venture left little money to promote the album. Unfazed by this stumbling block, Golden and Jayechs gained strength from their new partner in crime, DJ Squeeze. At only seventeen years of age, Squeeze was picked up by the group and became an indispensable asset to the S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. sound.

After a year of constant shows and endless support for their label mates projects. S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. released their second LP Structure , in February 2001. Released locally on a shoestring budget this album is just a taste of what the group has in store for their first national release entitled Delusions of Grandeur. Slated for release in late 2001 Delusions of Grandeur is arguably one of the best LP's of recent years from any underground hip-hop group. This project is the culmination of all their years as writers, producers and emcees including most of their best material to date. S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. also plan to release a B-sides album following Delusions of Grandeur called Sleepers making them one of a handful of groups to be able to write produce and record over three albums worth of music in one year.

Look for S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S. to be on tour promoting Delusions of Grandeur in 2002 as well as joining with their labelmates on two new projects The Solempire Project (a collaboration effort form the members of S.U.S.P.E.C.T.S., NX2KN, and Jacques Ku'Sto) and the Souls of Life Records Compilation Volume #1 featuring songs from up and coming artists JonJon, Ulysses, Lil Casanova, and Kaboose. All new material to once again change the way people view this group of young hip-hop veterans.
