The Buffali

One of the best artists in Wisconsin! - Clyde Stubblefield, James Brown's funky drummer

The Buffali are a bombastic acoustic indie-pop duo from Madison, WI. Featuring quirky vocal interplay and catchy melodies, this irreverent girl/guy outfit sings songs about everything from heartbreak to alien abduction. Their songwriting incorporates influences ranging from the Beatles to Tenacious D, with a healthy dose of country and blues thrown in. The duo brings an infectious glee to their live show, combining originals with an eclectic mix of covers from hip-hop to oldies. They play acoustic guitar, acoustic bass guitar and keyboard, with occasional miscellaneous percussion and a looping pedal.

Clare Fehsenfeld and Andrew Yonda met in 2001 at a housing co-op while attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After discovering their mutual affinity for performing bombastic pop music, they formed the Buffali in 2003. Early the next year they released a 6-song EP and won the UW-Madison Battle of the Bands, an impressive feat for an acoustic duo. By the end of 2004 they began touring regionally, and in 2005 they recorded their first full-length album, “Kerfuffle No. 10”. They went on their first national tour last fall, including a stop at New York’s famed Knitting Factory, and continued their winning streak this year with nominations for best pop album and artist at the Madison Area Music Awards.

The Buffali have shared the stage with Clyde Stubblefield, Johnny Dowd, the Ditty Bops and the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, among others. They regularly play live on radio and television, and they receive airplay on stations across the nation. They will play a national tour this spring followed by an appearance at Wakarusa, a music festival with over 15,000 attendees. This summer they plan to add a drummer to the band and will begin work on another full-length album.
