Turnaround Captain

As independent music falls hopelessly into fragmentation, mindless distinction, and merchandising, Minneapolis' Turnaround Captain allows the music to speak for itself. Turnaround Captain offers a unique resonance as their inspirations manifest into intricate songs as diverse as the band members themselves. In October of 2004, the band came together as a response to the absurdity of popular culture as well as the monotony of the local Milwaukee (WI) scene. Turnaround Captain presented an alternative to a scene of forgettable genres and image, and they created a community of friends and fans who were welcomed by the bands members as part of the band.
In a scene filled with glossy websites and promotion, Turnaround Captain let their live shows drive their success, headlining and filling countless venues by the spring of 2005. A Turnaround Captain show is centered around on the atmosphere; their experimentation and funky beat provide an indescribable soundtrack to the grooves that sweep through the entire audience. In the summer of 2005 the band released its first, self-titled EP. With the EP came an unrivaled and dedicated following in the Milwaukee area. When trombone player Max Lemberger moved to Minneapolis to attend college in the fall of 2005, however, the band went on a hiatus and faced an uncertain future. Subsequently, in February of 2006, Turnaround Captain relocated to Minneapolis to join their astute comrade. Minneapolis provided an excellent muse as the band then went to work writing new material and experimenting with various formats. Their live shows began to get attention in Minneapolis in the spring of 2006 with innovative material and a fresh start.
The work ethic and care that Turnaround Captain puts into every moment of their live show and recordings is a testament to their love for each other and the art. Dakotah Cornelius provides direction with his unconventional bass assault, which varies from smooth, funky rhythms to vicious thrashing, perfectly complimented by Rob DiSalvo's grooving drumming and masterful cymbal work. Additionally, Mike Baker offers extraordinarily versatile dynamics in both his guitar playing and vocals. Max Lemberger's trombone, however, showcases the bands innovation and style; the trombone weaves through the other instruments with atmospherics and incredible buildups.
Turnaround Captain represents freedom. Their work ethic and fearlessness, accompanied with a dedication to experimentation, creates a tone of unabridged freedom. Turnaround Captains lyrics are evidence to this. Mike Bakers poetry documenting struggle, love, and the dynamic human spirit illustrates the energy that the band plays with while screaming relevancy. Their live performances began to turn heads in Minneapolis in the spring of 2006, and their future is as open as their attitudes towards their craft
