The creative partnership of Jim Ouska and Jane Aleckson has been at the center of many groups since 1990. Stripping away the bands and performing as a duo, this history of performing together in a variety of situations gives a lot of depth to the music they play. Comfortable in jazz, funk, and blues styles they present a wide range of original music as shown on their recently released CD which is getting airplay on MPR, KBEM, KFAI, WPR, WOJB to name a few. Together they have played with Randy Sabien (head of the Berklee School of Music jazz violin department at the age of 20), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer Clyde Stubblefield, and many of the finest jazz, blues and pop musicians in the area. In 2004 they recorded the sound track for By Heart an independent movie filmed in Wisconsin. They will soon release their second CD. Jim Ouska won a West Bank School of Music jazz composers grant in 1991. He has received nominations from the Minnnesota Music Academy as guitarist of the year in jazz, R&B and Bluegrass. He formed the jazz group Jordu (Mpls Star and Tribune says Jordu is tight offering solid disciplined jazz and bop sounds) and the R&B group The Slim Hippos(Blues Review out of Atlanta says of their CD - well recorded original songs with well oiled cats doing their thing..Ouska's fine guitar playing comes through loud and clean. Jane Aleckson has played and sung with the prestigious Women Who Cook! since 1988. WWC! performed in the Soviet Union in 1988 as part of a peace tour and documentary which aired on Public Television. WWC! concert venues included O'Shaunessy Auditorium, The Guthrie, The State Theatre, The Orpheum, Northrup, Ordway, and The Target Center grand opening. Jane was leader of the Jane Gang, a 10 piece horn band for 10 years as well as playing with Prudence Johnson, Dean McGraw, Gene Pitney, Tony Sandler and many others. Jane can be heard on commercial ads as singer/bassist and many TC musician's original CD's.
