Captain MIke & the Totems is the latest incarnation of local music veterans formerly known as The Found and the Native Sons: While collaborating together as The Native Sons, Captain Mike and bass player Waldman were signed by Twin Tone's October Records. The two later formed The Found, which charted on the national college charts at No 8, just two slots above David Bowie. Media coverage included KQRS, KFAI, Cities97, the Pioneer Press, Star Tribune, Chicago Tribune, Cake Magazine and City Pages.
Their success resulted in The Found co-starring in the motion picture Funkytown a locally produced film which documented a wide range of the Minneapolis music scene in the 1990s. The group caught the attention of the now popular John Strawberry Fields current producer of Pink and Mandy Moore. They subsequently worked on multiple recordings with Strawberry, sharing production credits over a four-year period.
The new Captain Mike & The Totems CD was recorded and self-produced by Captain Mike (guitar/vocals, The Found and Native Sons) and Jon Herchert (guitarist for Kerry Noble and Mango Jam) with percussion by Dave Russ (Tina and the B-Sides, Dan Israel & the Cultivators) and Waldman on bass(the Vestals, The Found and Native Sons).
Performing live as Captain Mike and the Totems, Captain Mike and Waldman fuse with guitarist Michael T-Bone Menege (Hidden Persuaders), drummer Kris Fiddlesticks Schaeffer (Club House Pow, The Vestals) ,and Keyboardist Marc Slappy Doty (Manufactured Relevance, Godfrey's Cordial, Joylab & Fiction) to captivate fans with a fresh new sound never heard before.
