As the name implies, the music of Minneapolis quartet >odds vs.< (pronounced odds against) is a study in conflict and resolution. Four headstrong, intensely passionate artists, hailing from disparate social and ethnic backgrounds, refuse to shy away from their differences. Preferring instead to confront their clashing instincts head-on, they draw strength from discord, fusing beauty with depravity, fury with humor, duplicity with truth. The heady aural concoction that results could be likened, not coincidentally, to a heated argument among close friends: loud, spirited, contentious, sometimes bitter – yet always cleansing and life-affirming.

Individual listeners will hear different influences in the band's confoundingly cacophonic compositions, as represented on their self-produced debut EP action item. Shards of prog, math, indie, emo, metal and hardcore vie for ascendancy, bobbing and weaving like punch-drunk prizefighters locked in a desperate struggle for dominance. Shrapnel-sharp lyrics, delivered in machine-gun volleys of bracing, naked intensity, forge an unlikely alliance of jaded observation, inscrutable opacity and disarming honesty. Jagged, nearly anarchic rhythms juxtapose with calculated dissonance to spawn a new breed of harmony, only to be swallowed up in the ravenous visceral abandon of the moment.
