Michael Riddle announces the release of his new CD, “Put Yourself Out There”

Minneapolis, MN, USA – Michael Riddle, twenty-year veteran of the Twin Cities music scene, has released his first solo CD, Put Yourself Out There, an eclectic, guitar-driven collection of personally-penned songs with unique and often funny perspectives on life, love and family in today’s world.

Michael’s music is sophisticated mid-American country rock, influenced by living in places along the banks of the Mississippi as far south as Baton Rouge, LA to as far north as the Twin Cities. If I had to classify my own music, Michael muses, I guess it would fall somewhere between Cajun and Coltrane.

One of Michael’s most popular tunes, Cajun Lutefisk, is featured on this new release. It tells the story of a Cajun fisherman’s encounter with the Scandinavian dish. It’s kind of an ‘evil’ Cajun polka, Michael laughs. Another one of Michael’s songs gaining exposure is Glenwood Lakeside Ballroom Saturday Night. It’s an upbeat ‘love-at-first-sight’ story set in the historical Glenwood, MN ballroom that burned down last June. I wrote it last January, on a trip to China of all places, Michael recalls. I have several Minneosta friends that grew up in Glenwood and they are always talking about going back home and partying at the Lakeside, a venue I played several years back. I remember it being a great place to play and was struck when I heard about the fire. Michael has offered free use of the song to the Lakeside Ballroom Fund, a non-profit group organized to raise money to help re-build the popular landmark.

As a celebration of the Holiday Season in upper midwest, Michael’s CD ends with the dreamy When it Snows on Christmas Eve. I had Nat King Cole’s version of (Mel) Torme’s ‘Christmas Song’ in mind when I wrote it, but with a jazz guitar accompaniment, rather than piano, Michael offers. With so many Christmas songs available, it was difficult to write one with a unique perspective. But Christmas Eve seems to be the one day out of the year that everyone wishes for snow.
